Consumer Healthcare - Finding Research that Changes the World

Speakers: Philip James, Claudia Maw, Tom Watt  GSK Consumer Healthcare

In research it's easy to see the next technical step - but it's difficult to see the needs that might make it worthwhile. At GSK Consumer Healthcare, we believe change is driven when real people trying to solve human problems meet cutting edge science and engineering.

GSK is a direct route to consumer challenges that impact real people, all over the planet. By participating in the Grand Challenge Research Call, you have a hotline to unmet human needs and a partner that wants to help your ideas change the world. Join us on Wednesday May 4th as we discuss the launch of the next Call, and the steps we’re taking to change the world with Science, driven by humanity.

Tom Watt

Tom is a physicist and systems engineer who specialises in the development of novel systems. He has over 28 years of experience in the rapid development of technology and products from initial idea to full qualification and commercial launch.

Tom's experience includes rapid development of complex sensor networks, medical devices, IoT products, and safety critical systems. He has built and led teams to deliver products in the defence, energy, bio-medical and security sectors; executed large scale research programmes, and developed both corporate and technical strategies. He was Design Authority on a £100MM programme to create an autonomous mine sweeping system in under 18 months and was head of Safety Engineering for Virgin Hyperloop.

Currently Tom is Technical Director in GSK Consumer Healthcare as part of their NEXT team focused on novel and disruptive healthcare products.
